Free felt ice skate ornament pattern

Sharing is caring!

I’m sharing a free felt ice skate ornament pattern! I participated in an online ornament exchange and my partner, Betsy, said she loved glitter, blue, winter wonderland, and ice skates. I figured it was a perfect opportunity to share an ornament tutorial, I had fun making it and wanted to share it in time for Christmas.

It’s pretty quick to make, the laces take the most time. This was my first time working with metallic embroidery floss; I love how it looks but it wasn’t the easiest to thread.

I added jingle bells to the ends of the laces and used them as the hanger! I was a little sad to ship them off.

How to make an ice skate ornament

Supplies:

Steps:

1- Iron your freezer paper main skate piece (shiny side down) and pierce holes thrown each lacing spot.

2-Use the hot glue to secure the blade on to the wrong side of one skate body.

3- Flip over to the right side of the skate body piece, and blanket stitch applique the black accent on to the bottom of the skate. Only stitch along the top line of the accent piece. Repeat on the other main body piece, making sure to mirror the pieces so one is facing right and one is facing left.

4- Once you get to the toe, bring over the other main skate piece and layer them together. Continue blanket stitching along the bottom, connecting all four layers.

5-Finish blanket stitching around the edges, securing the bottom and closing the heel.

6- Start at the toe and blanket stitch the rest of the skate body’s piece, pausing with a few inches to tuck in stuffing. Finish blanket stitching all the way to the toe.

7- Thread your metallic floss (I used a piece about 28″ long, and three strands) and thread through the seam, coming out one of your pre-punched holes.

8- Continue zigzagging back and forth to mimic shoelaces, coming out the top. pull through and repeat on the second skate. Knot and thread two more strands,  looping through the second top hole, and tie all four strands together. Thread jingle balls on to the floss ends, tie in a bow, and hang. You’re  done!

I love these skates! I was wondering if you would give permission for me to make and sell these at my daughters ice skating events. The money would go to pay for ice time. Please and thank you!

Those are perfect! My sister in law used to be a semi- professional skater and these would make a perfect gift for her. Pinned.
