Lola by Victory Patterns – Canadian Pattern Designer Tour

Lola Sweater Dress

Oh Canada! I’m a stop on the Canadian Pattern Blog Tour today, a fun event organized by Ula over at Lulu & Celeste to showcase Canadian designers. There is a sew along component as well as two separate prize opportunities, so click over to learn more about all that! I have a list of other bloggers as well as a coupon & giveaway at the end of the post, so keep scrolling.

I’ve been itching to try the Lola pattern since I first saw it last year, so I jumped at the chance!  I’d never sewn princess seams but I love how they look, and I’m all about anything comfy. Even more so if it has pockets. BIG pockets!

I received my pattern for free, but opinions are my own and all that!

Lola by Victory Patterns

Lola is a dress designed for sweatshirt fleece, with princess seams and gigantic pockets. It has seen lots of love in the blogosphere, if you Google you can see it in all kinds of colors and combinations! It covers sizes 2-16 (Bust 33-44.5) and is a much quicker sew than you might guess.

Lola side

I sewed up the size 10, and measured 38″/28″/37″ at the time I decided on my size. I’m 5’2 and chopped about 3″ off the bottom of the dress (both the top and bottom have shorten/lengthen lines on the pattern), and 2″ off each sleeve. I think the silhouette is pretty flattering in a non-clingy fabric like this, I’m not self conscious about sucking in my stomach (you can read more about the damage my 2 kids did to it in this post!).

I used this sweatshirt fleece from Fabric.com and while I like the color and weight, I wish it had a little bit of stretch to it. The magenta ribbing is my favorite, I added a touch of it above the pockets to break up all the grey.

This dress is SO COMFY. I cannot stress that enough. The seaming all sewed up way easier than I anticipated, and I love not having anything to hem. There’s a reason there are lots of Lolas out there!

Lola back

Wow, do princess seams ever highlight my scoliosis/back asymmetry!

  1. I’m all about comfy! i love victory patterns pbut have never tried one. I think the Lola would be one of my picks, but I also love the Roxanne shirtdress. I love reading your pattern reviews btw. I trust your opinion because your always honest.

  2. I love your dress. It looks so comfy. And the contrast with the red is really great. Still haven’t made it yet, but after seeing another great make, it’s time to get sewing. If I’m the lucky one to win, the Lola dress is going to be my choice although the Roxanna shirt/dress is a great one too.

  3. I can’t believe I never commented before now! Thank you so so much for taking part in the tour. The dress looks so comfy and cute, I can’t wait to get started on mine!
