See Kate Sew Patterns – Zippy Top & Recess Raglan

See Kate Sew Zippy Top

See Kate Sew is one of the sewing bloggers I remember reading first. I think she released a hedgehog pattern first? I thought wow, how cool to print a pattern from home! Her  Recess Raglan *was the first pattern I bought to sew for my son (and I’ve sewn a billion of them since!). So, I jumped at the chance when she posted looking for testers on Instagram. This is the Zippy Top* from See Kate Sew!

It is intended, and written for, woven fabrics but I asked her if I could try it out in a knit fabric since she had already filled my size for the wovens. So, I bumped down one size and omitted the zipper. And I love it! This blue striped version with neon trim is actually made from target (this was a shot of my first haul… I went back for more!) jersey sheets. The neon trim is just some tshirt scrap – I love using those up!

A detail shot of the cap sleeve edging and neckline! I used some clear elastic for the first time to stabilize the shoulders and felt very professional.

I used some of this amazing, vintage iron-on seam binding for the hem. I hate hemming! I need a fairy godmother to bring me a coverstitch machine.*

My husband told me today he couldn’t believe I was “taking selfies of my butt to put on the Internet”. I hadn’t thought of it that way. Yikes.

Whenever I test a pattern, I try to use cheap fabric, scraps, or stuff I don’t love. This pink stripe is a little tweeny for my tastes, and was my first trial, but I thought I’d include it too! I’m looking forward to using some woven cottons from my stash to make more once summer is here (we’re looking at a high of 2 tomorrow in Iowa. Yuck).

Never fear, little people sewing is also here! I’ve never been a big holiday celebrator, but I now love an excuse to make my kiddo a themed shirt. And you know, by now, that I love elbow patches. This is a See Kate Sew’s Recess Raglan.

I’m trying out some fabric ink/stamping for his size tag!

Oh Hey! Just saw a click over from your post today on my stats. Thanks so much for linking up to my Zippy Top! Love your knit version - and I like the use of two fabrics on the "tweeny" version :) I need to make up about a bajillion more of this shirt! So comfy.

I like linking to other versions - sometimes it takes seeing something in a specific fabric to really "get it" you know? I need to make some more of these now that you mentioned it :) Thanks for stopping by!

Thank you for the overview, great job! The recess Raglan pattern was one of my first print at home patterns too. I like the pink stripe one too ☺❤

Cute shirt for you, but you know that St Patty's shirt is stealing the show! The patches are so adorable.
