UFO Confessions & 2015 Creative Resolutions

Sharing is caring!

I am so guilty. Guilty of getting excited about an idea, buying the supplies, and then letting it slip by. I don’t think this is a bad thing, for everyone, but I feel bad every time I walk into my sewing area and see these lumps of fabric on my “specific project” shelf… month.. after month. My sewing resolutions for 2015? Simple. 1. To finish all of these 2014 projects. 2. To stop feeling pressure to sew/make something “just because” instead of because I want to (see: Halloween costumes, Christmas pajamas, etc.) 3. Stop buying fabric that I don’t 100% love (just because it’s cheap, even if it’s not the right color, when I can’t think of anything to actually use it for).

I’m also going to confess all the UFO (unfinished objects) that are floating around my head, and even worse, the supplies that I bought but still haven’t used.

I will be crossing stuff off as I finish it – blog posts to follow about each project at some point!

Projects I have planned or started but haven’t finished:

  • A Sew Liberated carpet bag that was initially a part of this challenge, way back when. I bought fabric that I decided I didn’t like, and then never got back to it.
  • A quilt for my husband using this tutorial from Persia Lou (I “gave” him this for Christmas… 2013!! So, so embarrassing. I am intimidated by quilting, but am working on squaring up the blocks right now!)
  • Duvet cover, curtains, and body pillow covers for my son’s room
  • This first attempt at cross-stitching (I now know I was using too much thread, after misreading directions!)
  • Two different patterns for Swoodson Says
  • Three projects that were supposed to be Christmas presents for this year but didn’t get done
  • 2013 Family Year Book (digital via Mypublisher)
  • 2014 Family Year Book (digital via Mypublisher)

Fabric/Supplies I bought & haven’t used yet

I keep thinking of more to add to this list! Embarrassing. I’m excited to start crossing things off my list though, starting with that darn quilt.

Are you making any resolutions for creating in 2015? Do you have many UFOs?

I am just catching up on your posts I've missed over the last couple weeks and this is definitely my favorite. I am going to have to follow suit and write up a list. I have SO MANY unfinished projects. I'm not as bad about buying supplies and not using them (although I bought everything I would need for a bday scrapbook for the little one and haven't even started) but I constantly start projects and don't finish.

I keep stumbling on things and adding them! I've switched to digital photo books but still need to do our family yearbook from last year... I just finished this years so I'm adding it to the list and crossing it off haha!!

I am not as ambitious as you are. I only want to finish one UFO a month starting with the Yoga pants for my daughter-in-law. After that the challenge will be finding the rest of my UFOs. They are squirreled away somewhere in my beautiful mess.

We have moved a few times in the past four years, so I have had the opportunity to pack/unpack all my UFOs several times and confront them!

I feel guilty about my UFOs too. When I'm occasionally able to go to the fabric store alone, I tend to stock up on project materials...and then I never seem to get to those materials. It pains me. I have two quilt tops sitting here, mocking me. I have a few Christmas presents that will now be birthday presents. I would love new workout gear for myself...I have everything I need, I just haven't started!

Now I think I need a woodburning pen. haha!

And I sent you a PM via FB about something else. ;)

Haha, at least you got to the quilt top part!! I totally do the Christmas into birthday presents slide too. It's a sickness :P

I actually have used my woodburning pen! I made a spear for my son for a Halloween costume and burned a thunderbird into the wood spear tip. I have so many craft supplies just sitting there, but I know that eventually I may use them. :)

I have several UFO's cut right now, too. I must, must get them done! I have a goal for this weekend to get a few things finished up, so hopefully that happens.

Hope you're making good on your goal now that it's Saturday! I'm about to go work on my quilt more :) We've moved a bunch in the past 4 years so I'm acutely aware of all the supplies I have that I haven't used, since I have to keep unpacking them.
