2014: A Brief Reflection & A Few Favorites

Sharing is caring!

2014 is almost over! As I told you in my first earnings/goals recap, (see the second one here, third one forthcoming in January) this was the year that I committed to putting real time and effort into blogging. I’ve succeeded in posting twice a week, “met” some awesome bloggers I consider friends, and actually made some money towards the end of the year.

Two of my big goals were met, I released my first pattern for sale (and two free ones), and set up a weekly newsletter.

It’s funny though, looking at all of my posts rounded up in one space I kept thinking ‘but didn’t I make more things?! Post more?!”. The time that goes into making things and then photographing, editing, writing, and promoting ends up being about even. So it feels like I’ve done more when I really haven’t! It’s tempting to think “Oh, I could sew and craft so much more if I wasn’t blogging about it all too” but I know the opposite is true. Documenting and sharing keeps me motivated; otherwise I spend more time on Pinterest and planning than actually creating.

Without further ado, both my favorite and readers’ favorite posts of 2014:

My Favorites

I like the projects that I felt were particularly clever or unique. They definitely do not correspond with traffic, but I’m okay with that. I picked the clothes that I always pulled out for myself or my son to wear most often! My top five favorites, in no particular order:

1. DIY Playing Card Holder

2. Giant Toddler Floor Book/Pillow

3. Scrappy Harem Pants

4. Boy’s Bimaa Hoodie

5. Julia Cardigan

Most Popular by Traffic

1. Leopard Maxi Refashion – From 1 Skirt to 3 Shirts

2. DIY Ewok Hood Tutorial – CraftingCon Blog Tour

3. First Birthday Party Prep! A Cheap Photo Display

4. How to Save Money While Sewing

5. How to Upcycle a Sweater for a No Sew Winter Cowl DIY

Least popular? A Crafting Interruption – 6 Books I Love. Clearly no one cares what I’m reading! Which I’m okay with. That was a desperation post in the midst of packing & morning sickness.

You can see all my projects here but I’d love to know what stands out to you from my blog, your own blog, or just blogs/Pinterest in 2014 in general. I’m excited to do more book reviews and share some other projects in 2015 and really hope I’m able to keep some momentum going even with the introduction of our second kid in early March.

I like the two different favourite lists as a way of recapping - and to re address the balance I will visit your least popular post immediately!

Haha, thanks Toya :) It's safe to say I'll stick to posting about craft books from here on out.

As I read your post I resonate with the if I didn't blog I could make more, at the same time if I didn't blog I wouldn't be anywhere near as motivated to make:) Heres to 2015, and many more makes nurturing creativity:)
