Free toddler pillow case pattern – tested!

Sharing is caring!

If you’re looking for a free toddler pillowcase pattern, I tested out one of my friend’s tutorials and sewed up this colorful cover! I’ve saved minky fabric scraps but rarely use them, so this was the perfect project for me. My friend Shelly at Coral and Co. shares all sorts of fun things to sew for kids, if you use pinterest you have definitely seen her baby headband tutorial; and you can find the instructions for how to make your own toddler pillowcase in her blog post here.

I couldn’t resist sneaking in my son’s bear for the photoshoot, from my Hipster Teddy Bear pattern. Could there be anything more filled with love than handmade bedding and a softie to snuggle with? We love reading in our family and this is the perfect pillow for my kids to use instead of hogging mine as we look at books.

The main print is a Toucan Zoo fabric by Alexander Henry*, it’s so cheery and bright. My daughter liked pointing out all the colors, which made me think that it would be a perfect project for some i-spy hexies or other patchwork.

Perfect snuggle size! I filled the pillowcase with this organic toddler pillow* off Amazon, it was plenty roomy and fit well. My daughter is 2.5, for size reference (and could use some more pillow cuddling and less jumping off the couch as evidenced by her knee).

This is a great beginner project and easy to make quickly. I’m thinking about bringing these with us when we take our first flights as a family! Great roadtrip pillows too, I know the pillow insert was sold as a toddler/travel pillow and I could totally see using it myself in the car. Find the tutorial in her blog post here and make your own – or check out her Brunswick, Ga. newborn photographer website here!

See how I used a free toddler pillow case pattern from Coral + Co. to make the cutest minky edged pillow! Perfect for little kids or as a travel pillowcase to sew, this is a quick and easy sewing project perfect for beginners or using up minky scraps.

I have to say, the instructions for the minky pillowcase are some of the worst I have seen. She has several mistakes in her instructions and very poor wording choices that confuse rather than instruct, plus she leaves some info out all together. I can only imagine that a new sewer will find them very difficult to figure out. I have been sewing/quilting for twenty-five years and I struggled with these instructions.

Hi Charlotte! Yikes! I did not run into any issues with the tutorial but obviously everyone is different. If you have notes on where you felt it was confusing, definitely leave them in a comment on Shelly's post and hopefully she can clarify for others. Sorry you struggled with it :(
