Greenstyles Lacy Slope Hooded T-Shirt – Pattern Review

Sharing is caring!

Pattern: Greenstyle Women’s Lacy Hooded Top*

  • Size XS, in between shirt & tunic length
  • Extra long sleeves with arm cuffs

Fabric I used:

  • An awesome sweatshirt knit from the flat folds at Hancock Fabrics*

Changes I made:

  • Well this was initially much longer at the dress length, but my son saw fit to smash blueberries on the hem. So I cut it shorter. Otherwise, sewn up the way the pattern was written.

What I might do if I make it again:

  • I would widen the lower sleeves a bit if I was making this in a sweatshirt knit again.
  • Maybe line the hood.
  • I want to try some type of gathering in the back!

Overall thoughts on the garment:

This pattern is so fun! The wrist cuffs are weirdly comfortable and I feel like a ninja wearing them. I love it! I’m not a big pastel pink fan, but I couldn’t resist how soft this fabric was and now I wear it all the time. I have had several people ask where I bought it – which is always a nice compliment! Another odd positive is how wide the hood and head opening is. I have a gigantic head, so a top I can pull over my noggin and ponytail is a winner in my book.

 Overall thoughts on the pattern:

I am writing this review after testing several of Greenstyles‘ other patterns and getting to know the designer, Angelyn (she’s awesome!). So, I have to fully admit positive bias upfront!

With that being said, I really like this pattern. The french seam on the hood is a nice, easy detail that is explained well. The wrist cuffs took a leap of faith for me – I could not wrap my head around how it was going to turn out! But I followed the steps and they turned out just fine. I had no significant issues or annoyances while assembling or sewing, or  with the overall fit.

Looks nice :) -- always fun to experiment with new patterns. I'm helping my niece sew a western show costume right now - there's a first time for everything :)

Betsy, thanks for stopping by! A western show costume sounds intense -- I used to ride English but there's no forgetting those shiny, bedazzled western pleasure getups :) Let me know if you blog about it, I'd love to see it!

Haha, glad it was appreciated! I really hate taking pictures of myself, so when I can do something cheesy with my hands it's much less painful :) And thanks!!

I love those type of sleeves for hanging around. Sometimes, I wear wrist braces and it helps conceal them. Be glad your son only ruined the lower portion, I had cherries over my lower abdomen and couldn't get rid of it. I even tried dying when bleach didn't work. Your short version is great.

I love cuffs like this!! I've only ever seen this type of cuff in athletic wear (I buy most of my long-sleeved running gear with these cuffs) but would love a regular comfy shirt for work. YAY!

It's funny, I get comments ALL the time on my cuffs when I wear it. They're oddly comfortable, I don't know what it is about them. Definitely check out the pattern, it's one of my favs :)
