Highland Avenue House Pillow – Radiant Home Studio 2nd Birthday Celebration

Highland Avenue House Pillow, sewn by Swoodson SaysIt’s party time! Sara from Radiant Home Studio shares the prettiest tutorials and creative ideas, I love when a new post from her pops up in my feed. She is as kind as she is creative, and it was my pleasure to join in a blog tour for her second birthday celebration. I sewed up a Highland Avenue House, her newest pattern, and added a fun little door flap for my daughter to play with.

This pattern is so fun, you have to see the other versions Sara & her testers sewed up, I LOVE the crazy busy print one that her little boy is holding!

{As a part of the blog tour, I received a pattern for free but all opinions are my own!}

HIghland Avenue House Pillow

I sewed this on our first big snow day, so I was determined to make things from my stash work in order to avoid driving. A striped denim makes up the body, with a Kona textured honeycomb cotton in green, Cotton + Steel word find for the fuchsia, and an unknown bird in the tree scrap! The top and door are scraps from my herringbone quilt. I made the bottom row of scallops a little thicker – I wanted to be able to see more of that fabric since it’s my favorite!

The only other change I made was skipping the zipper and pillow forms, I just stuffed it like a softie.

Baby girl is almost 9 months and wasted no time climbing aboard her new pillow, it was pretty adorable.

I added a little door to the pattern, and appliqued a fun nature scene behind it! I didn’t have to prompt her curious fingers, she lifted up the edge and started feeling around. This is such a fun age!

Tree, sun, and cloud applique

I used bits and pieces from the roof fabrics and added in some blue. Scraps of fusible transfer web made the tiny shapes easy to apply.

I love how pretty the scallops look, all seams enclosed and neat. I found that my scallops looked best when I trimmed the seam allowance with my pinking shears instead of notching like the pattern said, but that is just personal preference! The pattern was very clear and easy to follow, as I expected.

There is so much fun potential with this – what about a Christmas house? A Halloween haunted house! Hidden embroideries or animals would be so cute under those scallops, too. Buy a copy of the Highland Avenue House Pillow for yourself! There is even a coupon code, which applies to all patterns: the Coastal Tote, Fairport Purse & Pouch, Mini Highland House, Water Bottle Tote, and the Retro Rucksack.

I love the little details! The appliqué is a fun idea and it looks like it's got enough texture and color to keep a baby busy for a while. Thanks for participating in the blog tour!
