Star bean bag pattern pdf free

After three years of being a stay at home mom with my son, my pants have seen better days. Instead of recycling them, I’m sharing a simple tutorial for upcycling jeans into star-shaped beanbags. Backyard games are a fun summer tradition, and what better way to play than with a sweet treat in hand! We love ice cream, so this might be my favorite sponsored post ever, being able to buy EDY’S® Ice Cream as a business expense. Download the free bean bag pattern pdf and follow the tutorial below!

Ice cream cones are perfect for holding in one hand while you play with the other – we teased my son that my husband was going to eat both the cones himself!

togetherness

How cute are they! At 3.5, he is finally getting into games and has the patience to take turns, etc. Even though we spend lots of time hiking, swimming, and exploring; some of our best summer memories are being made in the backyard. With games like this, even his younger sister can join in, keeping us all together and having fun.

stars

The star shapes initially came to mind because I’m planning our 4th of July festivities, but it turns out they are easy to hold and throw, too.

beanbag game

We made an impromptu target, with a few hula hoops and a bowl. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have fun, just a couple hours and add ice cream!

Supplies

  • Old jeans. Size/style will dictate how many beanbags per pair – I got 3 pairs per pair of skinny jeans.
  • Pinking shears
  • Poly Pellets – these make the beanbags machine washable!
  • Coordinating thread
  • Rotary cutter or scissors

Steps

step 1

1 Use the star pattern and cut out 2 stars per beanbag.

step 2

2 Pin or clip two stars wrong sides together and sew around the edges with a 3/8″ seam allowance, leaving a small gap opening.

step 3

3 Use a rolled up piece of paper or small funnel in the small opening, and fill with poly pellets. These are machine washable, so when the beanbags get dirty just toss them in the wash!

step 4

4 Sew back over the opening, gently keeping the pellets out of the way.

step 5

5 Use pinking shears to trim all the edges – this will keep them from fraying terribly. You’re done! Repeat steps 1-5 for each beanbag.

What a creative way to use old jeans! I love the idea of upcycling and often try do make something out of nothing. Great job!
