Momiform Makeover!

Sharing is caring!

Momiform Makeover with PDF Patterns

I have been doing some selfish sewing lately! Lauren, who blogs at Baste + Gather, shared an invite to “makeover your momiform” and I jumped on it immediately. I had my daughter 6 months ago and she’s finally settled into a rough two nap schedule. Most of the baby weight has melted off (thanks, breastfeeding!) and I can’t remember the last time I had to change my clothes because of spit-up. So, I think my “I just had a baby” pass to wear whatever I can scrounge up has expired!

I received the Eleanor cardigan & Patterns for Pirates patterns for free, but all opinions are my own! {This post contains affiliate links, indicated by an asterisk*. Please refer to ‘legal stuff’ in the top menu for more info.}

Swoodson Before

This is pretty much what I’ve been living in lately. Yoga pants (that have never done any yoga, ha!) and slouchy shirts/hoodies. I will definitely still be wearing these things, just hopefully not every single day. I normally am also wearing a stretchy headband – to disguise my lack of showering and postpartum hair loss. (I used four different free patterns and shared them in this post!)

striped grainline hemlock

For comparison’s sake, my measurements were 35″/28″/36″ at the time of making (I’m shrinking, yay! You can see some of my postpartum sewing reflections and measurements from 3 months ago here). I initially had plans to make some faux-denim Hudson pants too, but I decided to wait and see if the last 7 pounds drop off before I sew any pants. I’m only 5’2 so small amounts of weight can make a big difference in sizes!

First up is another Grainline Hemlock, sewn up in absolutely dreamy rayon/spandex jersey from Imagine Gnats. This fabric is amazing! I think I’m going to order more, to make a second just like this. I’ve sewn a couple hemlocks before and definitely prefer the thinner sleeves. This is so easy to wear! Just as comfortable as a schlumpy tshirt, and much cuter.

Eleanor Cardigan

Next up is the Eleanor Cardigan from Kzojo’Studio! This is a size small, and a study in fabric choice. I really liked how this looked in the mirror but after seeing these pictures, I think the fabric I used did not have enough drape (it’s some type of cotton blend from Jo-Ann Fabrics) so it reads a little boxier. This is the hip length, which I love, and it has extra long sleeves, which I also love. For the next version I think I’ll slim the lower sleeves a little, and maybe add some pockets! And, of course, choose a drapier sweater knit.

Patterns for Pirates Raglan Tunic

Lastly is what might be my very favorite “make” ever, from the Patterns for Pirates Women’s Raglan + Add-on Pack pattern. This is a size medium and it’s very generous and slouchy – I feel like I’m wearing the same hoodie as in my ‘before’ but I think it looks a lot more stylish! This is the cowl-neck, tunic length, with long sleeves. The fabric is absolutely divine, from the ‘flat folds’ table at Hancock Fabrics (it’s all designer overruns), with a lush terry sweater feel.

stamped twill tape

Lauren has a tutorial for covering the back seam and I am now obsessed (I initially put it too high, on this shirt)  I ordered the twill tape* super cheap off Amazon and used Versacraft fabric ink* to stamp with – I need to find more tiny stamps that will fit!

So, that is my makeover! I will be sewing more tops and sweaters as Fall approaches, and hopefully some new comfy pants next Spring when I’ve either lost the weight or realized I’m not going to lose the weight. Do you have any favorite patterns I should check out? Let me hear them in the comments!

Great makeover. I really like the silhouet with the skinny jeans and a wider top. My fave has to be the striped Hemlock!

They look great and very comfy! Congrats on losing the baby weight, too. I loved that effect of breastfeeding, too.

Thanks Stacy! And yes, it is a big benefit for lazy people like me. I am way too tired by the end of the day to work out :)

Isn't it great when little people get into a routine and their grown ups can a chance to do something for themselves, like sew a few cool new outfits ;) You have made great pieces for your makeover. They are comfortable but more fun than what I live in at the moment - track pants and old tees...

It is SO great. My kids definitely prefer to be awake over asleep, but it's such a relief knowing I at least have a little bit of time to myself once a day now :)

I would love to sew a Brazi and a Lilly dress.
