Sewing Stocking Stuffer Ideas

Sharing is caring!

It can be hard to guess someone's fabric taste or pattern wishes, but there are lots of nifty gadges that fit perfectly in a stocking! See this list of sewing stocking stuffers and find something unique for all the sewists in your life. #sewing #stockingstuffer #giftguide

It’s that time of year where I’m swearing that NEXT year, I’ll either buy all my gifts or start making them in July. I’ve been looking for small things to slip into zipper pouches & tote bags for the sewists in my life, and thought I’d make a list of sewing stocking stuffer ideas. I tried to balance cheap options with a little pricier ones- my family tends to treat stockings as another place to stuff presents instead of for smaller items. I’d love to hear if I missed any of your favorites! As always, it’s great to go check out your local quilting store, or suggest your significant other does, but I also understand that sometimes you’re up at midnight, trying to knock the rest of your list off, and want to order off Amazon with 2-day shipping.

If you’re in the shopping mood, check out my round-up of craft & sewing books to gift too!

If you’d rather sew your stocking stuffers for someone else (this list is all things you could buy, or suggest to someone else to buy!) – check out this post of 20+ stocking stuffer size sewing tutorials!

Pin this list of sewing related stocking stuffers for later, with this link and image:

Sewing Stocking Stuffer Ideas

collection of sewing and quilting enamel pins

Enamel pins are so fun and perfect for stockings! Check out my whole list of them here.

fancy seam ripper

How pretty is this fancy floral seam ripper* from Lacebobbins? If you’re going to mess something up, now you can fix it in style.

A reader suggested this nifty gadget, that you can cut threads in between multiple quilt squares!

clover penciles

Marking pencils* are the bobby pins of my craft room, I know I have several but they always disappear when I need them.

Nancy Zieman seams right

Nancy Zieman Seams Right* is a fun little gadget to measure and mark seam allowances, I picked mine up on a whim but actually use it often.

These “Bag Bling” metal labels from Emmaline Bags are SO cool! I spent so much time making my first legit bag recently, and would’ve loved to include one of these.

Bodkin

Bodkins* are so nifty. Unassuming, but they work so much better than a safety pin to thread elastic.

Looking for fabric lovers gift ideas? Check out this beautiful handmade seam ripper necklace! Perfect gift for someone who loves sewing, it is beautiful and functional, flipping around to cover the top safely while you wear it. This is an affiliate link to the Etsy shop where you can buy one. #etsy #handmade#giftsforpeoplewhosew #giftsforsewists #seamripper #seamrippernecklace

How cool is this necklace! A handmade, magnetic seam ripper that you can wear and use while you sew. Check it out on Etsy*.

thimble pads

Colorbok Thimble Pads* come highly recommended but I haven’t tried them yet.

This ‘quilting is like chocolate’ shirt* is SO fun.

thread box

A Gutermann thread box* is practical and would easily slide into a stocking.

craftsy class

A Craftsy class*, for those who want to gift an experience instead of a thing. Print out a cute little certificate for it!

Scissors keeper

My Patchwork Threads scissors keeper hangs out in my embroidery floss bag, making sure that my son doesn’t “borrow” my scissors.

fabric charm

Have you ever seen a mini charm pack of fabric? They are tiny and so cute! Quilting shops carry them,  like from Fat Quarter Shop.*.

Wonder clips

Wonder clips* are nifty, they hold binding and applique together tightly. I have the poor-man’s version with alligator hair clips, but am hoping to upgrade.

tree stump pincushion

This tree stump pincushion from Hitree* on Etsy is TOO cute and looks so beautifully made.

Gingher thread snips

I rave about my Ginghers; these thread snips* would make any sewist happy.

This mug* is cute and cheery, perfect for any java loving sewing friend.

jewelry for sewists

There are several different jewelry options with a sewing theme, check out this list of ideas that would all fit!

These snail measuring tapes* are so cute! These would be perfect to stick in your purse and dashboard for measuring on-the-go.

Thanks to Peggy, in the comments, I’m adding these clever bobbin buddies*!

Look how clever these hem clips are, you can iron right over them!

That dark blue thing, a magnetic pin wand; I have one of these and use it constantly! If you drop pins or needles, it is so much easier to find them with this.

That is an excellent list, Stephanie. I would add Fraycheck--the product is indispensable an any sewing room, and one can never have too many bottles on hand.

Thanks Arlene! I will go add that :D

Other goodies folks might not think of are colorful slim fit garden gloves with rubber on the palms + fingers (great for quilting) and heat proof fingertip protectors (mine are blue) for working close to the iron on fusible and other fiddly pressing tasks.

My current favorite from Amazon is Bobbin Buddies, which you use to attach bobbins to their matching spools of thread. They're small, light and colorful. Fit well in a stocking. My favorite tool of all time is my point turner, made more festive and easier to find with a pretty ribbon through the hole.

Oh I haven't heard of those, I'll add them! Thanks Peggy!

Maybe I value it more than most, but a hera marker is my indispensable tool. My grandmother introduced it to me for marking darts and notches when I learned to sew, and now it lays on my table next to my scissors all the time.

I think I've heard of those, but never actually seen one/tried one. Off to Google now, thanks for the tip!
