Simple embroidery patterns for kids

When I was writing my tips for teaching kids to embroider, I realized how few simple embroidery patterns for kids are out there.. I am all for letting kids draw their own designs (see how my son drew & stitched a project here), but if they would rather start out with a premade design, here is a list of fun freebies that I think fit the bill! Simple stitches, fun motifs, and relatively quick to finish.

Is there a style or design you wish was out there for kids? What would get them excited about stitching? Leave a comment and I can try to find something that matches!

The ice cream cone was one of the first things my boys (7 & 5) sewed. (The 3 yo too, kind of, he has to do everything his brothers do). We turned one into a pillow cover for their grandpa as a Christmas present. My 7 yo finished the mountain one and it’s one of our favorites! He’s starting a second version now. Personally I love those sampler style patterns because I think the variety of stitches make them more interesting to do.
