I had so much fun putting together this list of the best baby gifts to sew. Now that I have had two kids, I love choosing gifts for baby showers and baby birthdays because it brings back so many fun memories. My favorite gift is to pair something store-bought and useful with something handmade. I think especially once you become a parent, you appreciate handmade things more because you realize how little spare time parents have! I rounded up over 100 free baby sewing patterns for each category so there will be something for everyone!

Other store bought things that I’ve included with handmade gifts over the years are teethers, nose suckers, favorite diaper rash creams, and of course diapers themselves. I was thankful for each gift I received, but it certainly was nice to have extras of those things on hand even if they aren’t as fun to buy as toys and tiny clothes! Another of my favorite ideas is to pair a stuffed animal with a corresponding book, like a truck softie with The Little Blue Truck – I have two posts that pair up books and free patterns here and here.

Top free baby sewing patterns

1- Soft baby toys!

Baby toys are so much fun to sew, and they usually use up fabric scraps. They’re not free, but be sure to check out my shop for some fun softie patterns too! I have even more toys, some geared at older kids, in a free pattern list here.

2- Baby shoes

Does it get any cuter?

3- Baby Bibs

Whether for drool or food, you can never have too many bibs. The one shown above is on a toddler as an art smock, but we used it from 6 months on, keeps food messes to a minimum!

4- Baby Hats

They are perfect for knit fabric scraps, and so stinking cute.

5- Stuffed animals/dolls

Stuffed toys can be fun to play with for several years! There is something special about handmade toys, they’re my favorite.

6- A baby quilt

Quilts are SO special, I still have the baby quilt that my Grandma made me! My Mom has made one for each of my kids and I love them.

Find even more ideas in this round up of over 25 fun quilts to sew for kids!

7- Accessories

Little things that make life easier, these all are handy to have!

4 Free Baby Pants Sewing Patterns - free sewing tutorial for free baby leggings, baby harem pants, cloth diaper friendly baby pants, and footed baby pants! Perfect gift to sew for a baby shower!

8- Baby Clothes

It’s hard to guess season and size, but baby clothes sew up so quickly and use so little fabric, I can’t resist!

9- Sleepers and blankets

Once my babies were done being swaddled, they loved snuggling their swaddles!

10- Burp cloths

These are a necessity for early days, it’s much easier to wash one burp cloth than to change clothes (or buy a new sofa).

Thanks so much for all of the great projects. This is awesome, I'm definitely following your pinterest board too. I love the idea of incorporating much needed store bought baby items like Playtex bottles with a handmade item. Moms will love it! {client}
