Camper Applique on a Quilted Pillow Cover – Stitch Magazine

Quilted pillow with camper applique

I have had this post in ‘draft’ for a long time and realized I never published it! I shared my first magazine pattern for Stitch’s Modern Holidays (a fox ornament), and was really excited to have a second pattern in one of their quarterly issues. The issue was looking for 1950s Las Vegas-y eclectic projects, so my mind first jumped to a cute little retro camper.

Here is the issue, Summer 2015, it was in, with a shot of the magazine itself. Seeing something I made in print will never get old! Since this issue, Stitch magazine has (sadly) announced they’re closing, but it looks like you can still read back issues on the Kindle.

All of the fabric is from Hawthorne Threads (Michael Miller Cotton Couture in Malibu, American Made Brand in Dark Eggplant & Dark Aqua, Free Spirit Designer Solids in Spark Gold).

My initial “pitch” didn’t have the diagonal quilting but once I laid it out I felt like something was missing. I was so nervous to quilt it since I didn’t have enough fabric if I changed my mind, but I love how it turned out!

The issue had a predetermined color scheme, which is a shame because the yellow/gold really isn’t to my taste. I’m not sure what to do with it, now that it’s back home (anyone looking to buy a pillow for a holiday gift?!)!

I’m also not sure what magazine subscription to ask for for Christmas – the only other similar “projects” style magazine I can think of is Mollie Makes, which has single issues for sale* but no US subscription as far as I can tell. Do you have any favorite sewing magazines? Or are you in the “print is dead” camp?
