Grainline Lark Tee – Pattern Review

I tried out a pattern that is perfect for wardrobe basics – The Lark Tee from Grainline Studio. Grainline has a reputation for putting out well drafted, high quality patterns so I was excited about trying the tee out. When I first started sewing clothes, I focused on making what I couldn’t buy (or couldn’t afford to buy), like a merino wool hoodie. As I try more and more to avoid buying “fast fashion, being able to sew the basics that I wear every day is becoming more appealing. T-shirts are perfect for my wardrobe as a work/stay at home mom, and I love being able to add extra length.

I originally received the fabric and pattern from Craftsy for a sewing kit review, but they no longer carry the kit, pattern, or fabric. Now you can order the Lark Tee in paper form on Etsy* or from Grainline Studio, which also carries it in PDF form. If you have only sewn with ‘traditional’ paper patterns, you are in for a treat! The pattern is a booklet made of real paper, so it is easy to read, with larger illustrations and clear directions.

The pattern is printed on white tissue paper, with helpful measurements in case you forget which size to trace.

quality striped knit fabric

The fabric I used is 95% Rayon 5% Spandex, so it has great drape. One of my biggest annoyances with buying fabric sight unseen is when it ends up being transparent! As you can see with my fingers pressing through, this is totally opaque, they list the weight at 5.69 oz.

Ta-da! I sewed up a muslin to test the size and length AND this shirt both in the same night. The best part about sewing basics is that not only are they quick to sew, they get lots of wear.

I LOVE how long it is. It is safe to say there are many more Lark tees in my future!

I have a significant chunk of fabric left over, I will definitely be squeezing something else for one of my kids out of the leftovers.

This is how I wore it for the rest of the day – with my Julia cardigan!

Pattern: Grainline Lark Tee*

My Measurements at time of making: My measurements are 36″/29″/36″ and I ended up sewing a straight size 8, with the crew neck and cap sleeves.

Price & Sizing: $16 paper and PDF, sizes 0-18

Fabric I used: Rayon blend knit.

Changes I made: None

What I might do if I make it again:
instructions on how to do one thoughI think I could maybe use a swayback adjustment? I’m having trouble finding credible info online with visuals about needing one. I trust Kitschy Coo for . I’d love to try some of the other tweaks and adjustments, too.

Overall thoughts on the garment:
I love that it has so many options; variations include cap sleeve, short sleeve, 3/4 sleeve, long sleeve — crew neck, scoop neck, boat neck, v-neck.

Overall thoughts on the pattern:
It’s great! Easy to follow, easy to sew. No complaints here.
