Handmade Modern Stuffed Bunny

Sharing is caring!

Lunar lovers, unite! I couldn’t resist joining in with the Monaluna Fabrics blog tour for their new Journey line; I’m obsessed with this organic poplin they gave me and I sewed it into a sweet bunny softie. I fussy cut the pattern pieces to show off those beautiful moon phases, and I think it turned out beautiful. If this bunny looks familiar, it is because I worked off my Hipster Teddy Bear pattern to make it!

[Monaluna provided me with the fabric for free, all opinions are my own!]

There is a giveaway for some of this fabric & PDF patterns, so be sure to scroll to the end! You’ll see the other bloggers participating so you can click through and check out what they made, too.

Here is the full Journey line, you can see it has a very Southwestern feel. I love the teal wolves almost as much as the moon phases! They have a poplin substrate and a cotton lawn substrate; I worked with the poplin (which feels like a slightly sturdier quilting cotton, to me, it’s a denser weave and really high quality).

I used this pretty moon print poplin for the bunny’s main body, and the purple diamond you can see peeking out is from their previous Wanderlust line.
The purple inside of the ears is cut out from an upcycled wool sweater! I love how soft it is, my daughter kept rubbing the inner ear on her face. That sweet, tiny bunny is from my (free!) Mini Pocket Bunny pattern.

This photo is late night, cellphone quality but I wanted to share how I always sneak scraps in with the stuffing! Keeps them out of the landfill, and gives softies a little extra heft (see more tips on how to use up knit fabric scraps here!).
She is obsessed with tucking all her friends in with random rags and blankets so I thought I’d use the pretty purple poplin to sew a simple blanket for the bunny! It was a big hit.
What bunny would be complete without a tail? This and the face are all appliqued wool felt (see where I buy wool felt online, here!).

I am making big plans for the tiniest of scraps left from the moon phases poplin, it’s so pretty! Pin this post for later, here.
