Introducing the Little Artist Palette softie & puzzle toy – my second Swoodson Says pattern and the first one that’s for sale! It is a downloadable PDF sewing pattern, with digital pattern pieces and real photograph instructions. I really love handmade toys, especially for gift giving, and that is what motivated me to pursue selling sewing patterns to encourage more handmade toys.
The finished palette measures about 13″ and could be used in many ways:
- a softie for a baby or infant
- a simple matching puzzle for a toddler
- a prop for dress-up & imaginative play for an older child
- a throw pillow for decor
- a gag gift for any aspiring artists, of any age.

I released this pattern as a part of the Aspiring Designer’s Challenge that Pattern Revolution hosts – so be sure to check out my post there that includes a 48 hour giveaway! There is a whole roster of fresh new patterns; here is the schedule:
Sewn all in fleece, this is a great way to use up scraps!
The puzzle element is easy to add with a few extra scraps and Velcro; my son also liked pretending to “paint” with it.
I had a few awesome testers – the black palette makes those colors pop! Photo from Rachel at Once Upon A Sewing Machine.
Amy from How I Make Stuff told me this was her first time sewing something like this, and I think it turned out great!
It is exciting and nerve-wracking to put something out for sale, but I hope people like it and look forward to sharing more unique designs in the future!
