How to Embroider a Modern Heart Sachet

Looking for something to sew for Valentine's Day? Embroider up this pretty sachet and tuck it in a drawer or pocket!

I initially shared this free sachet sewing tutorial on the Seams & Scissors blog, as a gift idea to sew for Valentine’s Day. I sent the scented heart to my Mom, who has a February birthday, with the thought that it would sweetly scent one of her fabric bins! It’s a mix of embroidery and sewing, with simple stitches and lines. I went for a modern look, it’s all straight lines with french knots marking out ‘love’ in a subtle way. You could add your own embroidery design on the heart or leave it plain, this is a tutorial you can make as complicated or simple as you’d like!

Lunar Moon Phases Embroidery – Glow In The Dark!

moon-phase-embroidery-pattern-2

I’m sharing my finished ‘summer stitching’ project – the Lunar Blossom pattern from CozyBlue. I bought this as a part of her kit club, with a 3 month subscription, after seeing it on her Instagram account. I love the pattern and it was so much fun to stitch; the outer loops are sashiko style, something I tried way back when as a part of my TSNEM (try something new every month) project.

A stumpwork embroidery beetle with bead eyes.

Another month, another project! I’m sharing my Try Something New Every Month (TSNEM) project- this month’s ‘theme’ was needlework. You can see more about the year-long adventure and what else I’ve tried in this post. I tried my hand at “stumpwork” which basically means raised embroidery. I went with the simplest type, adding felt padding for a 3-d effect, but more advanced techniques include wire. I first heard about stumpwork when Rebecca tried it last year, making a planet.

Embroidered Reverse Applique Snowflake Pincushion Tutorial

I originally wrote this free pincushion tutorial for Seams & Scissors but I’m bringing it home today! There is no shortage of things to sew for winter, but I wanted a pretty, soft pincushion.  Reverse applique is an easy technique that you can use on clothes as well as quilts and home decor projects like this one. The embroidery design looks complicated but is actually very simple, with basic stitches. This would make the perfect stocking stuffer for someone who sews!
