Kymy’s Dolman – EYMM 2nd Anniversary Blog Tour

kymys dolman PDF sewing pattern eymm

If you sew PDF patterns, you’ve more than likely heard of Everything Your Mama Made & More. Kymy, the owner/designer, designs comfy, modern patterns that cover a wide size range. Kymy is also super nice and helpful so I was excited to be invited to sew for this tour, celebrating 2 years of EYMM being in business!

I’m sharing my version of the Kymy’s Dolman, with some thoughts below, as well as a coupon code for 43% off the whole store, in honor of the 43 EYMM Patterns released in the last 2 years. Join EYMM and 24 fellow bloggers as we celebrate the first 24 months of our pattern shop with a huge sale and giveaway!  The tour is featuring 8 different patterns for women and girls, you have a chance to win an EYMM pattern of your choice by commenting on this post, too!

I’ve been having fun sewing for myself now that I’m not carrying a tiny human in my stomach, and this top is a perfect fit into my wardrobe. Can be worn with jeans, leggings, hides my stomach, and was a quick sew.

I love the neck on this pattern, I think it’s unique and really flattering. I’m also a fan of “high” necklines because I wear my daughter at least once a day and then I don’t have sticky baby drool directly on my skin.

I made the original view, and then added on a band (the pattern comes with a band option, I just winged it) and added bands to the sleeve to balance the print out a little. The pattern comes with 5 different options; Hi-Lo, Basic, Banded, Ruched Sides & Maternity, & Tunic. It also has lots of tips for sewing with knit fabric; if you’re scared of trying knit, don’t be! It’s so forgiving.

dolman back

I’ve written about my postpartum body before (my daughter is 4 months at the time of this post), and while “feeling skinny” isn’t a goal of mine, it is a nice surprise that this shirt is the first time I’ve felt skinny/like my old self. It’s just a really flattering silhouette.

I loveeee this print but wasn’t sure how to wear it without being crazy. It’s a perfect “trim” feature.

stamped twill tape label

I added a fun twill tape “label” so I could tell which was the back. Lauren at Baste + Gather has a tutorial but I totally flaked and put it up too high instead of covering the seam! I love how it turned out though. I ordered the twill tape* super cheap off Amazon and used Versacraft fabric ink* to stamp with, I’m going to do a wash test and report back how it holds up. It makes me happy, peeking out over my coverstitched neckline!

Pattern: Kymy’s Dolman Top*

My Measurements at time of making: 35″/29″/36″

Price & Sizing: $9.95 Bust sizes 32″-61.5″

Fabric I used: Robert Kaufman knit, in amethyst, from imagine gnats shop* & Verhees ikat knit from Mabel Madison

Changes I made: Added 2.5″ bands to the sleeves and the hem. Added the twill tape stabilizer.

What I might do if I make it again: I love the added length. I think adding a bust pocket would be cute too!

Overall thoughts on the garment: I love it! Super comfy, easy to sew, this is a keeper for sure.

Overall thoughts on the pattern: Kymy’s patterns are simple. One thing I will say is to lay it all out before you tape – there were several pages I didn’t need for my size, so I could just reuse them by printing on the other side.

  1. I would really like to try and make a dolman top as well. Looks great on you. I have had three kids and have a bit of belly to cover, but now that I am less stressed, the belly seems to be shrinking. Thank goodness.

  2. I love the his and hers hoody pattern! The dolman top looks great on you. That would be a fun pattern to make also.

  3. I love the bands on it – you are right that it would be overwhelming on it own but looks awesome as an accent.

  4. Love the trim fabric! Great variation to the top as well. I shouldn’t be afraid of knits like you say so will have to try this top. Also would like to try the four seasons cardi.

  5. Love your top!!! The trim looks fabulous! 🙂 I’d choose the Get Moving Leggings, Capris & Shorts to make skorts for myself. 🙂

  6. From Fromall versions I’ve seen, this is my absolute favorite! I love the banded hems! And you look very good in it 🙂

  7. Like so many others, I would pick the Dolman top too. I hate to sew set-in sleeves and with the added band at the bottom, it’s so cute! Great fabric choices!

  8. OMG your dolamn is amazing! love the cuffs and band!!!! I really would LOVE to try out the dolman for myself!

  9. So far, I’ve made EYMM’s cala lily skirt, a dolman and the off-shoulder peplum. I love them all. They are all pieces that can be used more than once…but with the right fabric can be “special” wardrobe pieces.

You are adorable!! (Am I a broken record for constantly saying this?) And I seriously love that twill label. It’s awesome.
