PDF Sewing Pattern Designers Who Support Small Handmade Businesses

I wrote a post for Deby over at So Sew Easy with free tutorial ideas on things that would be good to sew and sell at a craft show or for a handmade shop, and it started me thinking about this topic. I see this question asked frequently online and have several friends who sew to sell. I don’t myself, but have had a few people email me to ask about selling from some of my tutorials, so I thought I’d dig around and come up with a list. Many of these designers said they love supporting handmade sellers and even promote their work on social media – how cool is that! I feel the same way; what a privilege to have someone taking the time to make a living, selling something from your designs.

Deby has since published a post talking about copyright and sewing from patterns, and while I also have the same understanding of the law as her (in that you can sell what you make, from anything, even if they “forbid it” or try to charge you for a cottage license) I still think it’s important to support pattern sellers who support you!

Lastly, I’m not touching on, or trying to explain, issues of compliance (here is an overview, from Create Kids Couture). There are regulations for selling handmade stuff, and tax laws, that are different depending on where you live. But, should you find yourself sewing to sell, check into those topics to save yourself some hassle once you get started!
