Valentine’s Day Sewing

Valentine's Day Upcycle - Swoodson Says

February means Valentine’s Day sewing is fair game! I’ve enjoyed sewing ‘holiday’ clothes for my son, but try to do it ahead of time so he can wear it a few times before the actual holiday. We were browsing Goodwill for a red shirt to make his sleeves out of, and this fun polka-dot and heart t-shirt jumped out at me! I had just read about  Mouse House Creations’ “Shades of Me” series so I thought I’d sew something for myself, too.

I helped to test an update for the Bella Bubble Sleeve T-Shirt from Greenstyles Creations* and it fit so well. The neckline is perfect – not quite a crewneck but I don’t have to worry about my undergarments showing. It comes in a tshirt and dress length so I cut the front to a t-shirt length and then cut the back as long as the existing shirt let me. I bought this fancy sloped ruler at an estate sale, and I’m sure it has much more specific uses, but I use it when I need a curve! So this is how I cut my high-low hem without it being all wonky.

Here is the before & after!

Of course I sewed something for my kidlet too! I bought the moose knit off a Facebook group and the red is from a Goodwill shirt. I hate hemming knits, so I just serged on the bottom band from the upcycled shirt too. I’m a little arm patch crazy these days. This is a Recess Raglan by See Kate Sew… slowly but surely I’m making one for each holiday.

So cute! Love the fabric. And I have to agree with the Bean Sprout Notes - I've got mom knees too - how does that happen? My right knee always gets holes in it, argh!

What a great upcycle. And I got a smile out of the "stay at home knees" - mine look the same way!! Thanks for visiting The Bean Sprout Notes, just stopping by to check out your blog too!

Great projects today! Your refashion is sooo much better than the original. I should look at Goodwill for knits like this...buying new fabric for every project can get so costly.

(And good idea for using the drafting ruler for the hi-lo hem!!)
